29 october 2004

Today I slept till 3'O clock and didn't prepare for the exam at all. The next exam is a bit tough, at least for me as it was not well followed by me in the class. The subject is :
BME 502 :: Compressible Fluid Flow

I am not good in these assumption based subjects and problem oriented subjects. So, I need to study well for this exam. Unluckily for me, the power was not available in my hostel. That's why, I am posting here.

Nothing much happened today. I am leaving now. Seems that power has come now in the hostel.

Today was the big day. The much-awaited examinations started today. You know why they are much-awaited because only if they come, they will get completed. It started with BME 501 :: Computational Methods Using C++ , though the programming part was eliminated from the syllabus at the last moment.

The partA was better for me. It contains of 10 questions which do not give the choice of writing our own question. We have to attempt all for full marks in that section. Each question carries 2 marks. The partB contains 5 units among which each unit is provided with 2 questions from which we can attempt anyone question. Each question carries 10 marks. So, the total makes 70 marks. The 30 marks for the percentage is taken from the internals already written.

All the subjects have the same type of question paper pattern but different types of settings and valuation methods. One teacher is so linient in this while some others are strict. One such teacher takes Computational Methods for us.

As far as my attempt was concerned, I did partA well but screwed up the partB. The choice of questions to be attempted was not good and the tension just crept over and over. But I am still confident that I might get a good grade in that, may not be a great one. I studied at 2:00 A.M. in the morning[yes, I pulled out a night out, and might be doing it for all the exams]. I completed the ayllabus in 3 hours. My exam started at 9:30 A.M. and continued for 3 hours. I had to
desperately sleep now, tonight.

Preview on the next exam tomorrow. Kidding...

Today, it was better for me. I hadn't slept like I did in the previous days. I did browse a lot though. I was watching the cricket match in the television for a while and when the power went off, I went to sleep. When I went to sleep, Australians were struggling to make a score of above 400[in the cricket match, of course] and I woke up only to see that indians are struggling to stay in the middle at least. I was pretty much disappointed at the way they had batted. More details on my blog - http://praveenonsports.blogspot.com

It rained like a hell here. The power was needed to be cut off due to it. One thing which made sure that I study a bit was the Computer Center in my college. You might not believe it, because all these days, I kept telling, it is ruining my studies, but suddenly am prompting that it had helped me in studies. Yes, the reason was pretty easy to explain.

It was closed for some maintainance operations. And hence I could not blog directly into the website here. This particular blog, you are watching now was typed in the intranet lab of the computer center, I am talking about. I transferred to file to the internet lab and had to post it again. Well somehow, I managed to study something today. We shall see how I am going to attempt my paper tomorrow, because it's the one that really matters.

As always...browsing. Forgot to eat also. It's getting really bad for me now. Somebody teach me how to be sincere in anything. I could keep the word, I give to my soul. Today I forgot even to eat. I ate only in the night. [no breakfast/lunch...] night that too not in the hostel mess, outside mess since it was already late for me.

I am having exams from day after tomorrow. This is just to remind myself. OK, not much happened today. So, let me get away now from this computer. It's really gad damn'tempting...

Today there was an examination [semester final & external] on Production drawing. A question to draw flange cupling in free hand with tolerances. A question to redimension a given object taking some other datum as reference. Small answer questions like definitions. A question asking for an explanation on ladder of cost. Finally, a problem on the cost estimation.
The exam was OK for me as not many, I suppose would have done better. But surely I was not the best. The problem, I made a mess of it, thinking it the other way. The drawing was OK but the tolerances, I had given might not be purely correct.
The examination got completed at 12.30 P.M. I came to room at 1.30 P.M. and slept and forgot about evrything else. I got up only at 12.31 P.M. next day. I slept almost for a complete day. This is what they call as day off, it seemed to me. But it was not at all good for me since my semester theory exams are going to start for me day after tomorrow and I, sleeping like this, am not going to do anything good at all for my ownself.
Hope you are thinking that I am wasting my own time here writing this blog, but what to do, I forgot writing this yesternight when I was sleeping. I had to write this at somepoint. That's it for today. I shall write my experiences today I am going to face tonight.

Sachin is back playing...

The suspense is over. Sachin Tendulkar is fit and will play in the Nagpur Test.

The much-talked about ‘tennis elbow’ has healed and after seeing Tendulkar’s 30-minute batting stint — spread over two sessions — at the MIG Cricket Club nets, team physio Andrew Leipus gave the good news. ‘‘Sachin is fit and will be on the plane to Nagpur tomorrow and will play in the third Test,’’ he said.

Visibly pleased on passing the fitness test, Tendulkar looked forward to facing the Australians in the third Test starting on Tuesday. ‘‘I am feeling pretty confident and comfortable and I am fit to play in the Nagpur Test,’’ he told reporters.

Giving a medical interpretation of Sachin’s comfort, Leipus said, ‘‘the stiffness and soreness in his elbow has gone and he is comfortable while batting.’’

Facing Mumbai skipper Paras Mhambrey, an assortment of local pacers and a couple of leg-spinners Tendulkar started the nets session today with defensive strokes. The final 10-minute session was for strokeplay. A back-foot drive on the on-side and an inside out lofted shot over covers suggested that Tendulkar seemed to be getting back in the groove. This was despite the long hiatus — he played his last international game on August 1.

He also bowled a bit but that wasn’t part of his serious workout. Rolling his arm, with pads on, to his son Arjun added to the general ‘well being’ all around.

While Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly would have heaved a big sigh of relief on receiving the news, the Australian camp might be forced to have an extended team meeting before the Nagpur Test.

But their injured skipper Ricky Ponting — hours after landing in India — didn’t give any hint. ‘‘It is very good news, especially for the spectators. And also for us players because we would like to play against the best team,’’ he said.
